On his web site, Huckabee says, We don't need universal health care mandated by federal edict or funded through ever-higher taxes. "We do need to get serious about preventive health care," instead of chasing more and more dollars to treat chronic disease, which currently gobbles up 80% of our health care costs, and yet is often avoidable. The result is that we'll be able to deliver better care where and when it's needed.

Florida health insurance web said that "Huckabee is encouraging the private sector to seek innovative ways to bring down costs" and improve the free market for health care services. "We have to change a system that happily pays $30,000 for a diabetic to have his foot amputated, but won't pay for the shoes that would save his foot, said Huckabee"

Democratic hopeful Barack Obama believes "that every American has the right to affordable health care". Speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa, Obama said, "My plan begins by covering every American." If you already have health insurance, the only thing that will change for you under this plan is the amount of money you will spend on premiums. That will be less. "If you are one of the 45 million Americans who don't have health insurance, you will have it after this plan becomes law. No one will be turned away because of a pre-existing condition or illness," Obama said.

Hillary Clinton also believes every American should have health insurance. Clinton was the candidate to set the bar on health insurance almost a year ago saying "If you have a plan you like, you keep it." If you want to change plans or aren't currently covered, you can choose from dozens of the same plans available to members of Congress, or you can opt into a public plan option like Medicare. Clinton said, "all working families will get tax credits to help pay their premiums."
